My Ex Just Moved for the Fourth Time in Less Than Four Years

This past February marked four years since I realized my eighteen-year-marriage was over and moved into the basement of the house my ex and I had bought just seven months earlier. Two months later in April, I rented a house and moved my children into our new home. By the summer of 2021, I had snagged the perfect family home for me and my girls when interest rates were still at three percent. I fully intend to stay here until my youngest daughter is grown. I’ll probably stay here forever if I can manage to get the mortgage paid off before I retire.

The entire reason I bought this house instead of continuing to rent was to provide a stable foundation for my family. A place we all could call home and a home base for them to return to in the future, no matter what else happens in their lives. That’s what home means to me. My daughters and I have spent the last three years making this house a home — from the art we display, to the furniture we choose, to the flowers we plant in the yard.

A couple of weeks ago, I heard from my youngest daughter that her dad is moving again. This will make the fourth time in less than four years that he’s bought and sold a home to move into another one. This isn’t a change of city. This isn’t because of his job. It isn’t because he’s…
