Why does no one talk about paranormal experiences when so many of us have them?

This past August I attended the Annual Michigan Paranormal Convention in Sault Ste. Marie. This was a first for me despite the fact that I’ve had a number of paranormal experiences during my life. The convention was both fascinating and validating. People were saying things out loud that I had kept mostly to myself for years.

My unusual experiences started in childhood. When I was in sixth grade, my sister and I were the witnesses to a strange phenomenon. For several nights in a row, an unseen force or entity would seem to drag itself across the floor of our bedroom starting at the bedroom door and coming toward us in the bed. Then the noise would begin again at the door and repeat. We were so frightened that we would sleep under the bedspread, sweat soaking our hair and running down our faces.

After that experience, I went to the school library and began checking out books on ghosts and poltergeists. The next weekend, wanting additional witnesses, I invited my two best friends over to spend the night. I told them about the mysterious sounds, and they were all in — this would be fun! The “ghost” did not disappoint. My friends screamed so loudly that it woke up my parents and my very angry dad appeared at my doorway demanding we go back to sleep and hold it down. We slept under…
